Drake Find Himself in Some Trouble

Young Money rapper Drake's "Best I Ever Had" hit is reportedly the target in a copyright infringement lawsuit filed this month by Playboy Enterprises.

According to reports, the smash hit illegally samples another song.

The suit accuses Drake, Cash Money Records and Universal of Copyright Infringement. The song sampled at the beginning of "Best I Ever Had" is allegedly their song, "Fallin' In Love," by Hamilton, Joe Frank and Dennison/Reynolds. The copyright for the music belongs to Playboy Music, Inc. and Plaintiff, Playboy Enterprises, is its successor in interest. Since Playboy claims that the "infringing conduct is continuing and ongoing," they want the court to issue an injunction, which pretty much means that they want the defendants to stop selling/distributing the song, and to stop making money off of it. Of course, Playboy also wants Drake and his peeps to account for all profits, gains and advantages made off of their song, and they want Drake to pay costs and attorneys' fees.

Playboy claims Drake and company likely had prior knowledge of the sample.

Remembering the King of Pop

Friday, June 25th will mark the one year anniversary of Michael Jackson's death.

Fans, museums and some members of Michael Jackson's family will mark Friday's one-year anniversary of the singer's death with special exhibits, tributes and flash mob dances from coast to coast.

In the family hometown of Gary, Indiana, matriarch Katherine Jackson will unveil a monument to the singer outside the humble house where the legendary Jackson 5 began their singing career half a century ago. A memorial and candlelight vigil will follow, ending with the song "We are the World."

Jackson's children -- Prince Michael, Paris and Blanket -- are expected to mark Friday's anniversary privately in Gary.

Drake knows how to get you guys attention....

MTV picked Nicki Minaj’s brain about a line on said album where he professes his love for her.

On “Miss Me” he rhymes “I love Nicki Minaj/I told her I’d admit/I hope one day we get married just to say we f*ckin did it…” Of course he was only flirting but DJ Envy put the full court press on Barbie anyway. Click to see her response to it.

The wait for one of hip-hop's most heavily anticipated debut albums is almost over, with less than a day until Drake's Thank Me Later is released.

The lineup features an array of A-list talent, including Young Jeezy, T.I. and Swizz Beatz and the already-announced Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, The-Dream and Lil Wayne. Fellow Young Money member Nicki Minaj will also make a guest turn on "Up All Night."

Despite his debut album leaking online recently, Drake is still confident in its overall quality and performance in retail stores.
"I always said if I had put out an album that was poor quality and music that people didn't enjoy, then I think the leaks would hurt me," Drake said in an interview. "Because a lot of the feedback has been great. The word of mouth, music is something that is to be enjoyed. I think it can help me so, June 15th, I'm still confident."

Lil Kim Speaks on Nicki Minaj Beef

Lil kim finally explains her beef with Nicki during an interview

“For the last year she has been subliminally taken shots at me. Subliminally taken shots at the other girls in the industry. I mean come on, we read that interview where she said“Being that the other rap chicks in the game ain’t got sh*t to do right now, when I’m by the pool they can feed me grapes”. I remember that sh*t, I keep my ears to the street at al the time. Just because I do my Hollywood thing and you know my Malibu Barbie thing don’t mean my ear isn’t to the streets at al time. The last thing she did that was very subliminal “ Did I [inaudible] the Queen?” and Puffy sitting right next to her riding with that bullsh*t?” Come on! We ain’t stupid

Let’s go all the way back when when she first came out and was doing all of my songs over There was certain interviews that she was doing and my fans got upset because she was busting shots at me. Actually she was throwing pebbles. It was nothing. I was blowing them out my face like flies. She said some sh*t on twitter like “Oh f*ck all you Lil Kim fans. Nick Minaj is the sh*t right now”. I still let that ride So a little while goes by, I see her at the Li Wayne concert and I show her love. She sitting here saying she showed me love, showed her love. She reciprocated it but i was a little war on her behalf. A little obnoxious but whatever. Now from that time on right, I would go on the internet and see ittle pebbles thrown my way. Anybody that’s in the hip hop industry, we know how thi game goes. We know the sh*t she was saying was subliminal, we know it’s a competitive sport and little people are going to try to claim their spot.

My thing was, homegirl got a nice little buzz going. It’s obvious I’m who she wants to be ike. It’s obvious that she likes me and wants to be like me but she’s not paying this homage

The New Face of Hip-Hop

The NY Times recently published an in-depth piece on Drake, highlighting his rise from Jimmy Brooks of Degrassi High to being one of the “most innovative figures in Hip Hop”. In the article, Drake discusses his short-lived relationship with Rihanna. He also reveals that he no longer feels safe in his hometown of Toronto after getting robbed at gunpoint last year. Here’s an excerpt:

In rapid fashion Drake has become part of hip-hop’s DNA, leapfrogging any number of more established rappers. “I’m where I truly deserve to be,” Drake said over quesadillas at the hotel’s lobby bar. “I believe in myself, in my presence, enough that I don’t feel small in Jay’s presence. I don’t feel small in Wayne’s presence.”

His next relationship was better: it inspired “Best I Ever Had,” the bawdy song that became his breakthrough solo hit. It reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, practically unheard of for a song that originated on a mixtape. Eventually it would earn Drake a pair of 2010 Grammy nominations, a first for a rapper with no album out. (An abridged EP version was eventually released to stores to capitalize on Drake’s raised mainstream profile. It has sold almost 500,000 copies, a surprising number for a collection of songs widely available free online.)

On “The Resistance” he raps about an accidental pregnancy with a woman he was briefly involved with, who chose to end the pregnancy. And on “Fireworks” there’s a verse about Rihanna, who asked him last year to write a song for her new album; the two soon began seeing each other regularly, though they never publicly confirmed their brief relationship.

Verse from Fireworks:
“I could tell it wasn’t love, I just thought you’d fuck with me/ Who could’ve predicted Lucky Strike would have you stuck with me, damn/ I kept my wits about me luckily, what happened between us that night, it always seems to trouble me/ Now all of a sudden these gossip rags wanna cover me, and you makin’ it seem like it happened that way because of me/ But I was curious, and I’ll never forget it baby, what an experience/ You could’ve been the one, but it wasn’t that serious.”

“I was a pawn,” Drake said. The song he wrote for her never got released. “You know what she was doing to me? She was doing exactly what I’ve done to so many women throughout my life, which is show them quality time, then disappear,” he said. “I was like, wow, this feels terrible.”

New Music: Eminem f/ Rihanna – ‘Love the Way You Lie’

Love hurts. Eminem carries the scars of a tumultuous relationship, while Rihanna sings away her pain on “Love the Way You Lie,” their highly-anticipated collaboration from Recovery (June 22).

“Just gonna stand there and watch me burn, but that’s all right because I like the way it hurts,” a fragile RiRi sings on the Alex Da Kid production.

Lil Wanye Phones in from Rikers Island

Even behind bars, Lil Wayne stays on his grind. Weezy drops a freestyle over Drake’s Jay-Z assisted track “Light Up” from Thank Me Later. The verse was recorded during one of Wayne’s phone calls from prison and premiered during Drake’s Ustream session on Tuesday night. Drizzy calls it “one of the most incredible Lil Wayne verses [he's] ever heard.”

Drake also revealed that he and Wayne are planning a joint album. “I went up to Rikers, and me and Wayne agreed that there will be a Lil Wayne/Drake album,” he told DJ Envy. “[This project] will probably be one of the most exciting things in my life, because we make music on a different level.”

Lil Kim Twitter Page Blasts Diddy & Nicki Minaj

Someone operating the Twitter Account @TheRealLilKim has taken the Queen Bee’s on stage attacks on Nicki Minaj to the next level.

The account has already obtained over 26,000 followers since unleashing a non-stop barrage of insults on everyone from Nicki Minaj and Drake to P Diddy and Kat Stacks, but it has not been verified, meaning it may or may not actually be Lil Kim.

@IamDiddy aka loose booty hole, aka I live in the closet, aka I have kids to cover up I’m a bottom,” read one scathing message.

The account message has stated that Lil Kim was on an Atlanta radio station today and announced that this account was being created, but it doesn’t state which station she was on.

“Yes, Yes Ya’ll it’s the real and only first lady of the rap game Kimmy. My account will be verified tonight.”

The author of the posts seems to have as much hate for Diddy as she does for Nicki Minaj, writing that”I love JLO, I wish she was gangsta and would post pics of the real reason she left @iamdiddy aka loose jaw.” Evidently, this Lil Kim is upset that Diddy may be managing/mentoring Nicki Minaj.

Whether it is really Lil Kim or not has not stopped fans and followers from retweeting and commenting on the things being written.

“OMG My Queen Bee you are finally here,” one fan wrote. “I see you cleaning house…I love you!”

The appearance of this account comes on the heels of recent comments Lil Kim as made about Nicki Minaj not respecting her or “paying homage.” She claimed the Minaj has spoken ill of her in interviews and the Twitter page goes further saying that the Young Money star has been dishing dirt about Kim behind her back.

“What ya’ll don’t know is that I embraced Nikki 4 years ago and now she’s been trashing me to people behind the scenes,” the Twitter Page says. “Try again Onika!”

So far none of the celebs attacked has responded to the Twitter Account. Given the relationship that Lil Kim has had with Diddy over the years it seems unlikely that she’d choose Twitter to air any real beef she’s had with him. Running your mouth on the Internet seems out of character for a woman who went to jail for not opening her mouth in court.

Rihanna Dishes On New Look & New Man in Elle

Rihanna dishes the dirt on her new look and new man in the cover story of Elle Magazine’s July Issue.

Inside she talks about her new boyfriend Matt Kemp, being happy that designers are using thicker girls for their ads and of course, Chris Brown. Check out the excerpts and pics from the spread:

On the album art for Rated R: “I wanted pictures that represented strength and fearlessness but still femininity—a strong woman who can be vulnerable. Every woman is made up of vulnerability and strength; no matter what race you are, no matter what you’ve been through in your life. Every woman has that strength that is undeniable, but we also have really big hearts. It’s just us.”

On her new beau: “I have a boyfriend. I’m so happy. I feel really comfortable, and it’s so easy. I have such a chaotic life, but at the end of the day, that is just my peace. It keeps me sane, really, talking to him and talking to my family.”

On the past year: “A year ago, I was very confused. Because he was my best friend. All of a sudden, one night changed our whole lives—not only our friendship, but our lives. I wanted to wake up one day and just not have that pain anymore. I wanted to be with him again or get over him—it was either-or. I just didn’t want to feel the pain, the confusion.”

Drake Responds to Album Leak

While most artists are upset when their music leaks prior to its intended release date, Drake has taken a different approach to his recently leaked album.

The rapper’s debut effort Thank Me Later hit the Internet late Tuesday, two weeks before its June 15 release date. But instead of lamenting about its appearance online, Drake addressed the leaks by tweeting, “I gave away free music for years so we’re good over here…just allow it to be the soundtrack to your summer and ENJOY! JUNE 15th!”

He previously told Entertainment Weekly that his intention was not to top the charts with the album. “I didn’t make this album for commercia purposes. A lot of the verses are extremely long. I just made it to share with people. I hope they can enjoy,” he said

Leaks aren’t always bad news. Just ask his Young Money boss Lil Wayne whose album Tha Carter III sold over one million copies in its first week boosted by his Internet popularity

Nelly Not Trying to Repeat History

Nelly and Kelly Rowland topped the charts in 2002 with their duet “Dilemma,” but Nelly is not looking to repeat history with their latest collaboration.

“Let’s be honest, we can’t do ‘Dilemma’ over again. That’s etched in time,” he told Rap-Up.com of their Grammy-winning hit, which was named one of Billboard’s Hot 100 Songs of the Decade. “It is what it is; that song was for that point in time.”

The song’s sequel “Gone” was helmed by Jim Jonsin and Rico Love and is set to appear on Nelly’s new album Nelly 5.0. It picks up where its predecessor left off“It’s kinda like an extension of the story,” he explains, “and still playfully having fun with it like we did with the first one.”

But Nelly forewarns those who will undoubtedly compare the two tracks. “In no way, shape, or form are we trying to repeat a ‘Dilemma’—like you gotta be fuckin kidding me.” In the meantime, Nelly can be heard on the urban remix to Kelly’s new single "Commander"

Gloria Govan’s fiance Matt Barnes couldn’t wait for the opportunity to blast the show’s executive producer Shaunie O’Neal after the reunion was taped.
